Have you ever been in credit card debt and had student loan debt at the same time?
Krystel of All She Saves found herself in that situation and was motivated to attack her debt after an awkward conversation with her boyfriend. He was shocked to find out that she had accumulated $15,000 of credit card debt while she was living with her parents. He was also paying off his student loans so the two of them started tackling their debt together.
You’ll find Krystel’s story very relatable.

Key takeaways from our chat with Krystel of All She Saves
1 – Krystel had to find other ways to connect with friends socially
Krystel loved to build and maintain relationships by inviting her friends out to Happy Hour or dinner. She had to change how she connected with friends and maintain her social network when she started paying off her debt.
It was hard since meeting up with friends was her ‘love language’ but she was able to modify her behavior to stick to her budget.
2 – She’s sick of buying $2.75 frozen pizzas (but keeps doing it)
Krystel finds $2.75 frozen pizzas at Aldi and one time she ate them straight for ten weeks. She started crying on her tenth week because she was sick of eating frozen pizzas.
Her debt payoff journey is worth more to her right now though so she’s continuing to eat cheaply until she finishes paying off her debt.
3 – Krystel utilizes consignment shops so she can wear the latest trends
Fashion is important to Krystel and she finds herself rotating out her closet every season. She makes this work for her by selling her old clothes to consignment stores and using the money to buy new clothes.
These are her favorite consignment stores (in Minneapolis). There may be locations near you of these companies.
- Elite Repeat in St. Paul
- Turn Style
- Plato’s Closet (everyone agreed this is the bottom of the food chain if the higher paying consignment stores don’t take your stuff)
This method is how she addresses her shopping needs while not breaking her budget.
