How do you find the love of your life when you’re money conscious?
If you’re like Emma Pattee, Gwen, or J – you tell guys up front and let them decide if they’re ok with it. Sometimes that means the guy walks away and sometimes that means you end up with the love of your life who is the PERFECT fit for you. Money is the number one reason for divorce and is critical to talk about before marriage and kids.
Emma shares some hilarious stories about her dating and married life that you don’t want to miss.

Key takeaways from our chat with Emma Pattee
1 – FI people are weird
We like to talk about money and straight out ask each other about our investment strategy at events. It’s helpful for our partners to have support and community at those events too.
Emma mentions that her husband Andrew has had really real conversations with other partners at events and we should do more of that in the community. He’s also washed dishes for the entire Camp Mustache crew too (thank you, Andrew!)
2 – Even aligned couples disagree
Money should always be a conversation in the relationship. It’s not something that you talk about once and get entirely on the same page.
Both Gwen, J and Emma have accepted partners having different opinions on spending money and met their partners somewhere in the middle.
3 – Consider your partner
What does each person want? Is spending aligned with goals? How can you compromise and reach a level that makes both people unhappy? Compromise is making both people unhappy.
Emma mentions that she has actually come further to meeting her husband in the middle than she expected in her relationship.
4 – Every couple should have a prenup
Prenups plan for the worst time in your life in the best time of your life. Emma makes a very convincing case of how prenups actually protect women & children.
She also has a free course and has made it her life’s mission to spread the good word on prenups.

This was by far my favorite episode on the show! I hope the discussion about empowering women financially picks up more in the show. Financial shows, blogs, conversations are very dominated by men. I grew up in a house where the message was that I needed to get married and maybe I could work and maybe I didn’t have to, but in either case the man would be the provider. I didn’t know anything about pre-nups and now I feel like, of course I must have one when that time comes! Knowledge is power and I’m wondering what other tools I don’t know about. More please.
