Another great podcast episode! As to the later comments about housing bubbles, it’s wonderful to hear that you & your husband refused to sacrifice your financial priorities for a house. There will always be another house and you two are doing yourselves a favour by not “winning” a bidding war, since the “winner” is the person who is willing to pay the most. How can paying the most ever be considered a “win”?
Also, it was very heartening to hear your statement that you understand how housing bubbles are created. I’d love to hear you two do an episode on how first-time buyers can avoid getting hurt in a housing bubble, how bidding wars help to create housing bubbles, etc… I know that you’ve already interviewed FireCracker & Wanderer, but their story didn’t delve into the details of this particular facet of the problem. In any event, don’t overpay for any one house – there will always be another house at some point. You’re far better off continuing to save money while you search for something that suits your personal financial goals.
All the best to you in 2018!
